It’s the season to be Merry…
… and to pretend you’re an
origami master as you try to wrap a single small novel without using a whole
roll of festive paper.
…and to engage in lengthy Q&A-style debates about whether it’s
better to force an entire 6kg turkey into the oven with a cricket bat or joint
it into manageable pieces.
… and to balance ethical and
environmental values with small children’s intensely commercial longings for
Santa to bringeverything that’s ever been made of plastic.
… and to stretch the imagination
with explanations to said small children of how it’s possible for said
red-suited guy and his team of antlered friends to visit two billion homes
around the world in 24 hours.
… and to tremble that these
savvy little tykes might ask Google instead of you.
… and to deal with the new
reality of family tweens who, totally, like, want you to give them iTunes gift cards, as hideously
impersonal as that may seem.
… and… well… you know the drill…
and how tiring Christmas can be and why God invented eggnog.
But also think about this:
before you know it, Christmas will be over, the New Year will be here, you’ll
have left the tree up too long and people will already be saying, “I can’t
believe how fast this year’s going
by!”
So… now’s the time to stop and
smell the tinsel (and it really does have the Yuletide scent like nothing else,
doesn’t it?), enjoy every second with friends and family and make some memories
that’ll keep a smile on your dial in 2012.
Awwwwww. Yep, we’re as sentimental as The Santa Clause 3 around here.
